My daughter jeanofalltrades began her style blog in January 2011 and by the end of the year, I joined the club. When I started my blogging journey three years ago, I made a video for her birthday (and to celebrate her first year of blogging) of Jean’s outfits that she had posted on her blog. Since then, I make one every year using photos of the year from her blog.
Before Jean could dress herself, she was a little fashionista; she wanted to choose her clothes every morning and I let her, even though they didn’t always match (she never did liked matchy-matchy). She started the pattern mixing trend and has perfected it.
I bought us matching outfits (which my mom used to do with me) and I loved it. Jean didn’t seem to mind at the time, but now she only lets me dress like her as a favour to me for a photo. This one was taken the last time we were together in New York City, August 2014. We still buy some of the same clothes! Jean has great taste! 😉
As a teenager, she always walked out the door in style from top to toe and I wanted to take photos of her in all her fashionable outfits (which annoyed her). She changed her hairstyle like women change shoes: everything from rat-tails and bouncy afros to long, straight blonde hair and short, sassy red hair.
What a beautiful birthday tribute you did for Jean, as a mom I think she is always in your thoughts and heart, love the video and the calendar that you did of her looking wonderful in any of her original outfits. Happy birthday Jean my best wish for your day full of love, faith and health !

Thank you Bob! I guess it runs in the family, although my mom was much more elegant than I am, a real 60s style Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy. Jean is also more fashionable than I am but I try to keep up, it’s not easy having a fashionable mom and a stylish daughter to compete with LOL 😉

Happy Birthday Jean! It is lovely to have a mother who loves you so, so sweet and sensitive. “De tal palo tal astilla” they say in Spain. Like father like son, it is said in English. Your mother inherited his style of your grandmother, the initiator of the fashionista line, and you’re lucky enough to have as a mother to this woman so wonderful in every way. Take care much for her is the best gift you can have. A lovely post, congratulations Carmen, to have a daughter like Jean.

Thank you dear Ute! Birthdays are special and since I can’t celebrate with Jean because she lives in Seattle, this is a meaningful way for me to celebrate her birthday.
