Coastal Grandma Style

Coastal Grandma Style

Did you know this is a trend?

Well, I am a grandmother, I live on the coast of Lake Huron and I love stylish clothes – so I guess that’s me – Coastal Grandma Style. I did not know this was a trend.

According to this list, I qualify.

  • floppy hats ✅
  • big sunglasses ✅
  • linen dresses, pants and jackets ✅
  • sensible shoes ✅

Floppy hats and big sunglasses

Sleeveless shift dress is from Maggie’s clothing exchange (made in Canada). I wore sleeveless shift dresses in the ’60s. Still love them because they are cool and comfortable. This groovy black and white print reminds me of the mod style I loved so much!

I am a grandmother with three grandchildren

I am blessed with three children and three grandchildren. I must say, having granchildren is a lot easier! My top is part of a two-piece set (matching skirt). Cotton capris might be Grandma Style but it was Audrey Hepburn that made them popular. Sandals are vegan (Romika) sensible shoes for sure!

I live in a tourist town by the lake that looks like an ocean

I wear this gingham nightie on the beach. It’s part of a collection of lingerie I bought at La Vie en Rose. I figure I can pull off this look on the beach with everyone wearing far less fabric in bikinis. Right?

I love stylish clothes

Cool blue chambray shirt and breezy palazzo pants are great for summertime and perfect at the beach.

Since we moved to a beach town on the southwest coast of Ontario, I enjoy leisurely strolls along the sandy shores at sunset and especially dancing on the beach.

What a delightful adventure when six of my dancing friends from where I once lived came to visit. By coincidence, we are all grandmothers, here on the coast, wearing stylish clothes!

Chic, funky and fashionable is how I describe my fabulous friends. We even got compliments from strangers about how lovely we were dressed.

How many lighthouses can you find?

  3. Hello Carmen ! I did not know that coastal Grandma was a trend ! You definitely tick all the boxes and you do it with grace and style. The shift dress is lovely and casual with the unique print. It goes well with the rest of the outfit. You are a Grandma for sure and I can see you are much loved. I love your outfit that you pose in with your Grandson. You can definitely pull off the nightie look on the beach, got to love gingham ! How nice your friends from Kitchener came to see you, you are indeed loved ! Such a fabulous group of Ladies you all are together. I am not surprised you got lots of compliments on your look. I am not a Grandma (please not yet!!) but the style is one I like a lot! I see 2 lighthouses! That is such a pretty close up of you on the couch. Thanks for this great post, Terri ❤

Thank you very much Terri! You don’t have to be a grandmother to love this style! 🙂 I’m getting lots of wear with the outfit I wore in the photos with my grandson, it’s part a two-piece set that has a matching skirt.

Having my friends from Kitchener come for a visit was a hightlight of my summer!

Thanks for guessing, there is one lighthouse and one beaker in Kincardine, however, the lighthouse is in six of these photos and the beaker is in one photo. 🙂

Good guess, it’s actually one lighthouse in six photos. 🙂 In one of the photos, there’s a pier and at the end of it is a beacon. 🙂 Thanks so much for stopping by Morag!

Oh! And I should mention, since you are moving to Scotland, Kincardine is a Scottish town in Ontario with a piper playing bagpipes on top of the lighthouse every evening at sunset all summer long. Also, there’s a pipeband parade every Saturday evening on Queen Street in the summertime and a Scottish Festival every year! 🙂

The dress is beautiful and I love the look of supposed grandmother. A cute print, your capris, the pretty hat… everything is perfect. I love the gingham nightgown, it’s so cute. I love the rest of the looks, especially your white capris. The last photo surprises me.

Thank you for your kind words Josep-Maria! I’m glad you like these looks. I also bought gingham capris I’ll show another time (no photos yet). Capris are perfect for the beach because I can wade in the water a little since I don’t swim. 😉

I haven’t heard of this trend, I do love floppy hats though. I am not a Grandmother (yet), not sure if I ever will be, still I don’t mind. You and all your friends look truly fabulous. I bet they loved it. You sure live in a fantastic town, beach, beautiful buildings, lighthouses, many as it seems 🙂 … such amazing backdrops for pictures really. I love your town. You look fabulous Carmen!

Thanks ever so much Ute! Even if we’re not grandmothers or don’t live in a beach town, as years go by, one birthday after another, we can still look our best and have fun with fashion! BTW there’s only one lighthouse in Kincardine but I noticed it’s in many of these photos! Haha! 🙂
