I feel so blessed to have a profession that I love! Doing what I enjoy and getting paid for it doesn’t seem like work. I am a certified fitness instructor and started teaching dance in 1985. I used to conduct classes 5 days a week, and I’ve been trying to cut down since my “retirement” when I turned 65 four years ago.
Now I rent a dance studio and teach two days a week, something I hope to continue for the rest of my life, God willing!
Getting ready for the first dance class of this year, I wore my high low skirt that I bought a few years ago, perfect for dancing and looks so feminine. It’s a flowing, sheer fabric that looks amazing when I twirl.
Although I think it looks lovely with a black lace blouse, I regret not having bought the matching blouse at the time, because then it would look like a dress. That way, I could wear it either way.
For jewellery, I chose a black “lace” necklace (looks like lace but is actually metal) and a black “lace” bracelet, hand-made with an up-cycled inner tube from a bicycle tire (very soft and comfortable to wear).
My mom had several two-piece dresses and they were so versatile. I inherited one of them (designer Diane von Furstenberg).
I also have two more skirts with matching tops that I bought at my daughter’s eco-boutique Drizzle and Shine that I can wear together or separately.
I hope you dance!
Apparently you prosper even with your skills. 🙂

I do love dancing although I’ve never had a dance lesson. Your dresses and skirts fit you so well. I love the cut of them all. They look like they would swish around on the dance floor.

Thank you so much! I’ve always loved dresses that twirl. As a child, I remember trying on dresses in the change room and if the dress didn’t flare out when I twirled around, I would tell my mom, “this dress doesn’t dance!”
You don’t need lessons to be able to dance, all you need is a dancing heart! However, if you want to learn Ballroom dancing and some other styles of dancing, lessons are helpful! 😉

It’s great that you can still do this. Are you teaching ball room or staples like tap and ballet?

This skirt sounds familiar to me, I think I have seen it before, is it possible? She is gorgeous with that asymmetrical cut and that flare. When you dance with her, the show must be something precious. I love your mother’s colorful dress, which Jane has also worn. All the combinations you present are very pretty and I love the black look with white flowers. I’d love to see you teaching …

Oh my!! What a good memory you have and how many years you have been with me, almost since the beginning of my blogging days!! This skirt was on my blog before but I don’t know where! Haha! It is lost among the hundreds of posts that I have published over the years. I very much appreciate your kindness! 🙂

Hi Carmen! How nice that you do have a profession that feels so much fun! Good for you slowing down since your “retirement”! May God keep you on your feet teaching others for years to come. Your hi-lo is very cute and I love the feminine look to it. It would have looked so nice with the top , but goes great with the one you paired it with. The dress you got from your Mom is so nice and oozes class. I love it is a seperate. The other 2 outfits are really nice to have as a dress or mix and match. Isn’t it nice to have the choice. I only have one dress that can be seperated into top and skirt, I should look out for more! I will dance! Have a nice evening, Terri xo.

Thank you so much! My dear mom was indeed a classy lady and when I wear this DVF dress, I feel so elegant. Two-piece dresses are great to mix and match. I can also wear these tops with pants for a casual look. Keep on dancing! The joy of the Lord is our strength! 🙂

You look so ready to dance, and so elegant. I love dancing as you know, but it has not taken place for a long time now. Hopefully in May when lockdown measures are lifted we can dance again. Dancing is good for the body and soul! Keep on dancing!

Thanks so much! Dancing is like breathing for me, I need to breathe everyday. It’s so beneficial for mental health too, which is very important especially during these times. I like to dance away my blues! 🙂

I’m thankful as always to hear from you! Thank you for sharing this song, I have not heard it before. I do remember their 1964 hit – You Really Got Me. Now I see “Come Dancing” was inspired by Ray Davies’ memories of his older sister who died of a heart attack while dancing at a dance hall. Very sad.
