Denim and Lace

What I wore for a weekend getaway to Collingwood, Ontario.

For our 50th wedding anniversary, my husband bought me this whimsical lace dress. We were on our Niagara Falls weekend and while browsing through a little boutique Lasting Impressions (near Chrysal beach) he found it and knew it was just my style. I loved it immediately!

I decided to wear it as a duster over jeans. I love dressing up denim for a rough and refined look or what I call rugged elegance, combining masculine and feminine.

Jeans were always boys’ clothes in my opinion when I was young. I didn’t even own a pair of jeans for the longest time. Whether casual or dressy, I like to wear something feminine when I wear jeans.

When we go on road trips, we stop to enjoy the journey whenever we like before arriving at our destination. Collingwood is about a two-hour drive from our house with several small towns along the way. We stopped in Elora and bought some delicious vegan baklava at a bakery.

Last time in Collingwood was for The Elvis Festival. There’s always time for some shopping to support local stores. We enjoyed a romantic dinner for two at a Thai restaurant on their private patio (delicious vegetable stir-fry served with rice noodles).

Hat: thrift shop $2.99
Lace dress: Lasting Impressions
Cami: older than I can remember
Jeans: Hue
Purse: thrift shop $3.99
Non-leather sandals: made in Costa Rica

What better way to end a perfect day than a walk along the beach at sunset. I love how the days linger in the summertime.

The dress is wonderful, I love its colors, its fabric and its volatility. The combination with jeans is perfect and gives it that air that you want to achieve from fragile and hard, a combination that represents you perfectly. You are pure strength and passion for everything that matters to you and is passionate, and at the same time, you are the human face of sweetness, beauty, softness and elegance. I love your bag, your necklace and your shoes … and, trying to say it without looking rude, I love the way your top adjusts to your body, showing that it is the most beautiful body.

Thank you with all my heart! Your comments are always so kind and encouraging! I love what you wrote about strength and passion! Yes, that is the combination I want to achieve! You have put into words what I desire to be: sweet and soft, but also strong and couragous! You already know my figure comes from dancing and my plant-based lifestyle.

  3. How amazing is your husband Carmen? No I’m not jealous at all! The lace dress is gorgeous and such a great idea for you to use it as a duster you look very chic in the complete outfit. When on a trip like that it is nice to stop at the cute little towns along the way. So many things to see and experience. I love the pics of you along the beach twirling in your new dress / Duster. Wishing you a beautiful weekend take care,Terri xo.

Thank you kindly Terri! Thrifting is his hobby, he’s Scottish and loves a bargain! He’s very patient and scours through the store always finding something special and practically new. But this time he splurged and spared no expense! I love dresses that twirl when I dance!

Thanks so much Nancy! This is without a doubt my favourite thing he’s bought for me. He actually buys a lot of my clothes (usually at secondhand shops, this time NEW). After 50 years he knows what I like. 😉 I’ve always been honest and don’t pretend to like something if I don’t, that has helped him to know my taste. 🙂
