Things that go bump in the night

It was that moment between being awake and asleep, just as you’re slipping into slumber. We heard a huge thud that shook us into being wide awake.

“What was that?” I whispered to my husband who was already sound asleep. Furniture falling over? An earthquake? An intruder? He got up to investigate while I stayed under the covers. He checked everywhere: even the garage and basement, then returned with a puzzled look on his face. Nothing. We couldn’t have both imagined this earth-shattering sound.

The next morning a neighbour told him that a huge tree had fallen in the forest behind our house. Our young explorers were among the first to arrive on scene.

We thought it wood make an unusual backdrop for my newly thrifted jacket. With some days feeling more like autumn it was the perfect day to wear it.

SNAP … CRACKLE … POP

My outfit

This lightweight empire-style jacket is super soft, made in Canada and has cute plaid fabric buttons and zig-zag stitching for detail. It’s perfect for spring weather in Ontario when temperatures fluctuate more than a woman’s mood swings.

Most of my jackets lately (almost all are pre-loved) are colourful or pastel shades. However, I still love earthy tones and neutrals and it depends on the day what tickles my fancy. The warm greyge shade is a bend of grey and beige.

I’ve worn these corduroy leggings numerous times on my blog and even more in real life.

These are fashion boots rather than functional ones that we need during winter in Canada.

My dry-weather boots are faux suede fabric, which I purchased in California, Christmas 2006. They’re not suitable for Canadian winters because they aren’t warm enough and the salt, slush and snow would ruin them. I noticed some women wearing boots in California when I was wearing sandals.

So what’s happening in your neck of the woods?

I appreciate your literary license …. “We thought it wood make an unusual backdrop” ….. which it would and did.

  3. The joys of things that go bump in the night Carmen! I am glad you stayed under the covers and had your husband investigate. It was good your neighbour was able to put your mind at ease and know it was a fallen tree. How fun for the Grandkids to be able to check out the tree, it is massive! It is a nice back drop for your photo. I love this jacket on you and the buttons on it. The corduroy leggings look so comfy and I like the color contrast to the jacket. Cute boots too and an adorable purse to finish. Its funny how our bodies adjust to cold. 0c and sun can feel beautiful in a cold winter for us , but 10 or 11 in California can be cool for the locals there. Thanks for sharing Dear, Terri xo.

Thank you very much Terri! My husband buys most of my secondhand clothes because he loves thrift shops and has a keen eye for style and knowing what I like. We rarely have to exchange anything he finds because I love his choices and they almost always fit perfectly! The leggings are pure comfort and cost-per-wear they are a bargain!

You’re so right about the weather! 🙂

I suppose the fall of that tree was a major scare. The forest is a beautiful background to show off your outfits. A beautiful landscape for a beautiful clothes. I love your gray jacket, it is very elegant and the combination with the pants and boots is also very balanced. Always wonderful, with any outfit. Your grandchildren are beautiful and bigger every day.

Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I love the forest, the air is so fresh and now that the leaves are coming again, it looks like spring! I’d like to take another photo of my grandchildren climbing the tree. 🙂

This particular tree was not too close to our house. However, we do have trees right behind our house, sometimes I wonder if they’re too close for comfort. 😦
