SLOW FASHION: Burgundy and Black

1

My love affair with burgundy began when I was a teenager and I’ve had this rich colour in my wardrobe ever since. I bought this quality top in Germany in 1982 when I was 30. I wash it by hand and it still looks new. That’s what I call SLOW FASHION.

This is my first time wearing these tassel earrings, they look so cool. I had wanted a pair for ages, ever since my daughter made her own DIY tassel necklace (years ago before they came into style). They came in a dozen colours, I chose burgundy.

This wrap skirt is one of the newest items I’ve bought recently: a timeless romantic style with ruffles and a flounce hem. Made in the UK and just happens to match my top!

April 24th being Fashion Revolution Day–6 years since the tragedy in Bangladesh–support companies that are kind to people, the earth, and animals. Ask companies “who made my clothes?”

I’ve styled this outfit with my tattoo leggings, which peek through slightly on the dance floor. Black stilettos, black belt and a little black evening purse and I’m ready to go dancing tonight.

Do you have a colour you’ve been faithful to forever?

❤ carmen

  8. I bet those tattoo leggings are flying off the shelves since you published these exotic photos! As for my own favorite colours… Brights in youth, black in the corporate years, and now that my hair is grey and my skin rather similar, I’m back to brights. The colours of clothing reflect on the face, and I like colours that light me up.

Thank you for your kind comment Rachel! I had a time of wearing black and neutrals at various times and since blogging, I’ve gotten more into brights and colours as well as prints. I happen to be weaing burgundy today. 🙂

WOWZA !!!! Oh my, what I missed on Apr. 26 by going square dancing instead !!!!! I only know after the events when I could have made a better choice.

PS It took more time to read the comments to this blog than it took to read the blog. 🙂

I’m all about fashion flashbacks. I don’t care if something goes “out of style” or if it’s not popular anymore. Along as I like it, I’ll wear it. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

Brilliant idea to have tattoo leggings, it means you can change your style easily, no pain and no fading as you get older 🙂

What a beautiful set and, of course, I’m glad to know that your legs are not really tattooed! I love the neckline of this jersey, with the lace detail, it’s cute. The skirt is very beautiful too, with that drape so original. But, without any doubt, the most beautiful are your legs and your smile.

You are so generous with your compliments and I always appreciate your kind words! I’m glad I bought these tattoo leggings, a fun look without being real tattoos. I’m going to wear them with capris when the weather gets warm enough. 🙂 It’s almost May, but still chilly. 😦

  19. I love the tattoo leggings! They add an unexpected twist to a ladylike outfit. My long term colour is black. Whenever there’s a choice, I usually opt for the black.

I like what you said, “unexpected twist to a ladylike outfit.” 🙂

Black is classic, you can’t go wrong. Always in style and goes with anything.

  20. I don’t mean to be crude or suggestive, but this outfit looks VERY good on you…um…I think I’ll just take a dip in a cold Mumford River…with the spring peepers and fish (hopefully—no water snakes!) I’m not TOTALLY comfortable with tattoos, but the floral pattern does look nice!

Thank you so much! I’m going to have fun styling these leggings with other outfits. I actually thought of this idea, hoping that they would make stocking that looked like tattoos, and to my surprise, I saw them in a store window display while visiting my daughter in Seattle. 🙂 Now I have the look without the pain and expense of real tattoos, plus I can take them off again! 🙂

  22. Hi Carmen, you have really taken care of this beautiful top! The tassel Earrings go well with the outfit. The skirt goes so well with the top and I like the shoes, belt and evening bag for the contrast color. Have a nice weekend Dear, Terri xo.

As for colors, I always used to love green. And while I still love it, I have expanded to yellow and all bright colors now!!

Exactly! I’m showing a little leg so you can see the tattoo leggings but in real life it’s more modest than the photos. I will be a little more daring and wear them with a shorter skirt or shorts in the summer. Looks like I actually have tattoos as I’m walking and dancing. 🙂

I’m like you, while I love burgundy, I have all the colours of the rainbow in my closet.
