This vintage dress (made in Italy) has stood the test of time with style and quality. Little did my mom know when she bought it in the ’70s that three generations will be enjoying it for 50 years!
This is not the first time I’ve shown this two-piece wrap dress on my blog, but it’s the first time showing how I can wear the skirt with a black top. I can also wear the top with a black skirt or pants.
It belonged to my mom and my daughter Jean received it first, but she is kind enough to let me have it for awhile. I’ve only worn it for special occasions and always as a set.
Recently I wore the skirt with a black top. Once to my grandson’s 13th birthday party and also to a wonderful vegan restaurant with friends.
It’s the only two-piece dress I have. I’d like to buy another one because it would be great for travelling and creating different looks.
Do you have fashion heirloom from your mom or grandmother?

Quality is more economical every time.
I paid some $2300 for my first car in 1966 …… I could have paid some $1900 for a new car at the time ….. but the said car was my (later, our) only car for eight years and served well as our second car for four years ….. only routine maintenance ….
Likewise, my quality clothes last and last and last …..

I totally agree! Quality is best. In this throwaway, disposable society, we need to pay more and buy things that last. You get what you pay for. Fast fashion and cheap goods only hurts people and our environment.
Thanks for making a difference.

I’d love to see it! My daughter has a few that she has bought at consignment shops and eBay. Diane (formerly Princess Diane of Fürstenberg) is a talented fashion designer and remarkable business woman. Please take a look at when my daughter met Diane Von Furstenberg.
Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

This dress is exquisite Carmen and so chic! Your Mom was a fashion icon for sure. Fabulous print and I am glad it is a two part that you can mix and match. The black top is a perfect for pairing with the skirt , love your chain also. Now you will have to get your Granddaughter to model it in the years ahead! I only have one two piece dress with a pastel pattern , goes good with a white top. I am a bit bigger in size to my Mom!! Love the kitty in the pics, Thanks for sharing, Terri xo.

Thank you so much Terri! What a great idea to have my granddaughter wear it too! She will be 10 soon and in another few years it will fit her! That’s Jean’s cat Alice. Jean rescued her. Alice is blind and loves getting into the pictures, haha!! 🙂
I bought the necklaces in Seattle, I’m wearing the one on the right.

How do you say in the post, is not the first time I see you with this dress. I think I remember a dinner in Seattle, is it possible? It’s a wonderful dress, I already said it at the time. It has been used by your mother, you and your daughter, that is the greatest demonstration that time does not pass through it, as with any work of art. Using it by pieces, combining with other garments, can be a good option.

Oh yes, you have a good memory, but this is a misunderstanding. I said it’s NOT the first time I’ve shown it, but now I am showing how I can wear it separately with another top because this outfit is actually a skirt and top which I never mentioned in other posts. 🙂 I’m glad you like this option! I should show the top worn with a black skirt too.

It looks really lovely, and so handy to match with other tops. I am back in Germany for the 3rd time next week to have a nice week just with my sister. We may look in the wardrobes to look at the clothes…. and do some sorting. ♥

That’s why I hope to find another two-piece dress, perfect to mix and match. I want to give this one back to my daughter so she can enjoy it. Thank you for stopping by during this difficult time. Hope you have a nice visit with your sister and perhaps keep a few special things. ❤️

My mom was about five inches shorter than me, so none of her clothes would fit me. That DVF dress is lovely and it looks gorgeous on you!

Thanks so much Nanette! That does present a problem if your mom is not your size. 😦

So true! Cost-per-wear this dress was a great investment, proving quality actually saves money, whereas cheap fast fashion only makes the rich richer, the poor poorer and ends up in landfills very quickly.

HI Carmen!
You look wonderful in this dress! Wow. So classic and it stood the test of time! I was talking to my mom recently and telling her I wish she would have kept some of her clothes, as it would be great to see what comes around again. She wore gingham and loved the print.. Its a wonderful thing that you can wear it and have it as a memory of your mom when you do!

Thank you so much Jess! This is one dress that will be treasured and it’s such a lovely way to remember my mom. I feel so special when I wear it. Although my mom looked very elegant in it, at the time, it was not my style when i was in my late teens. I guess I’ve matured and now this is my style! 🙂
