What was once an eye-sore and toxic waste site has been transformed into an industrial playground and urban park with man-made rolling hills. It’s a perfect place for a picnic overlooking beautiful Lake Union. Jean wrote about it on her blog.
The first time I saw it was from a distance while on a DUCK RIDE ten years ago. It looked like a rusty monstrosity, yet somehow, has an artistic appeal. It has an interesting history of what was once the Seattle Gas Light Company.
This time we went for a leisurely walk on a pleasant day in January. The rolling hills are fun to climb. I’m lovin’ the moderate Seattle climate, a few people were even wearing shorts. Back home it was snowing with sub-zero temperatures.
I love parks and this one is so unique. It’s a great place for dogs and cats too! Jean took this cute photo of Strudel the Cat.

What an idea, good idea not to demolish things but leave it and add to the history of the town. Very unusual and strange , surely it attracts visitors.

It’s a creative idea to recycle obsolete structures into Industrial Art. They did a great job to clean up the area and make a park for people to enjoy. 🙂

Such a nice place to go for a stroll and be able to climb hills . It is nice that they saved some of the history of the city . Great video detailing the history. I like the Husband and wife with the kids solution htey came up with. The last park I was at was Lebanon hills for family photos. Have a great day Carmen, Terri xo.

I found the history of Gas Works Park fascinating, so I included the video! I do love strolling through parks and this one is very different. They call the hill Kite Hill, as I’ve heard that people fly kites there. Your family photos must be lovely, parks make a beautiful backdrop. 🙂

This place seems beautiful to walk … It is a very interesting way to recover the historical industrial heritage and integrate it into the landscape. Seattle seems a very beautiful, modern and active city, with great initiatives and a commitment to modernity.

Seattle truly is a fantastic city with so much to see and many places to go for walks. Every time we visit, Jean takes us to another adventure. This was our first time in Gas Works Park, up until now we had only seen it from a distance. I like how they have turned a into a historical landmark.
The view of the lake and city from the top of the hill is beautiful, especially just before sunset as the sun reflects, which you can see in some of the photos. Lake Union is the place where the house from Sleepless in Seattle was filmed.

Jean has three cats but this one is not hers. She has a CATIO adjacent to her house where her cats can access and enjoy the outdoors whenever they wish: which keeps her cats safe and the birds that frequent her garden are safe too. Domesticated cats are not native and can be a real problem for wildlife. We love cats and birds so this is the perfect solution. 🙂

Pretty strange … somehow looking like the UNESCO world heritage area Völklinger Hütte in Germany, also a strange industrial landmark.
