Scarf Inventory

Some woman collect shoes, I collect scarves.

Before going on my winter holiday in Seattle, I decided to take an inventory of my scarves, I have quite a nice variety that I’ve collected over the years. Some were gifted to me and many are thrifted, several belonged to my dear mom. I have a few scarves over 50 years old. While on holidays, I usually buy a scarf and so I have a souvenir of that trip.

My mom liked wearing scarves; her favourite kind were small silky ones that she would tie in a knot at the side, very ’50s style. I also use some of them to tie around the brim of hats or on the strap of a purse. This is one of her leopard print scarves.

Scarves put the fun in functional, not only keeping us warm in cold weather, but it’s an accessory that adds a finishing touch to an outfit. I have outdoor scarves and indoor scarves. The designs are so creative, it’s like wearing art.

I have six eternity scarves (four shown here) and three faux fur scarves: black, beige and animal print (a gift from my friend Debrah).

Five pretty lace scarves I bought (new) at a garage sale for $3 each

Since making this video, I counted about 75 scarves–give or take a few–which is not a lot considering I’ve been collecting them since the 1960s which means I buy 1.5 scarves a year. (Well, I’ve never bought half a scarf so I guess that’s three scarves every two years.)

Do you like scarves? How many scarves do you have?

It was so cold yesterday that I wore 2 scarves for the few minutes, say 12 minutes, that I was outside. I have only 5 or 6 scarves.
However, for square dancing, I have some 12 scarf ties with an assortment of slides….. most of which I have thrifted at square dance club sales.

As for memories, we tend to buy (coffee, tea) mugs and post cards to remind us of places that we have traveled .
We have become more selective buying mugs because the cupboards and storage boxes fill up.

Your scarves wear like art because you wear them artistically. 🙂

Thank you so much! Good that you have both kinds of scarves: ones to keep you warm and ones for adornment. 🙂

Post cards are great for souvenirs and take less space than mugs. 🙂

What a wonderful collection of neck scarves and scarves. For me it is one of the most important accessories, I am also a collector, although of course I do not reach your level! LOL. Beautiful photos, in all you look so elegant and beautiful! The influence of your mother is something wonderful, it moves me. The video is great, although I find it hard to understand you, simply by hearing your voice everything acquires a magical and attractive aspect.

Thank you soooo much for your kind comment! Our mothers had a good influence on us, right? I love to wear my mother’s scarves. I’m happy to know you also have a collection, as scarves are wonderful accessories for men too and look distinguished. 🙂

Perhaps I should have made the video in Spanish or with subtitles! 😉

      Feliz semana!

  5. Hi Carmen I loved the video presentation of the scarves!! You are a natural in front of the camera and could be on qvc!! Such a variety, I love eternity scarves the most , its just Me I guess. also the ruffle scarves are so pretty along with the silk feel ones. The reversible scarves are a real 2 in 1 , I like the gold to silver stars. The pashmina is nice for a little bit of extra warmth . I think I have a small number myself less than 2 dozen but I need to invest in some more ! Thanks for this and I hope you are enjoying the Island getaway this weekend, big hugs, Terri xo.

Wow ! What a lot of scarves. I have six. Anyway, if you are ever trapped at the top of a tower, you can make a rope out of them, either to escape or call up your knight in shining armour 😉 Have a great weekend dear Carmen ❤

Wow so many scarves… I love scarves too and always wear them, but I don’t have as many as you. They are wonderful gifts and I also have given my sister quite a few as she also loves them. I used to have one like your second one from Germany with silvery strands in it… that was when I went to school. Tonight I wear a warm one as we are performing a dance outdoors as our Borough was voted the borough of culture. It is the launch and we perform in the street. We already did it yesterday .. it was cold so I have to wear more layers. It was so much fun and I can’t wait for tonight. Have a great weekend Carmen. ♥

Thanks for watching the video Ute! The square scarf with silver stripes was very popular in Germany in the ’60s, I have three: black, blue and the one shown in the video. Scarves make wonderful gifts because one size fits all. 🙂 How exciting that you perform in the street. I have done that too! 🙂

I have quite a few too. They really are so practical and a great souvenir. My favorite hanging piece is from Ikea with round circles in it to hang them on and then I use that as an art piece in my room. Because scarves are like pieces of art, aren’t they??

Ha ha!! I really could open a shop, but I don’t want to sell any. 🙂
Two scarves? Perhaps it’s time to buy one more.

I agree that we are more prone to collect rather that sell.I have collected much pharmaceutical memorabilia over the years….. Rather than sell , I have given items to a local pharmacy in Paisley …. the owners are pleased to display said items. 🙂
