Today is my daughter Jean’s birthday. This photo taken by her dad while they were on an evening stroll one summer day, when she was 6 years old.
Jean is a born fashionista and started expressing herself when she was a little girl. As a toddler she decided what she wanted to wear. She started pattern mixing before it was fashionable. When I politely tried to persuade her to my choice in a pair of boots when she was five years old, she chose the ones she liked and looked up at me with an equally polite response, but firmly said, “Mommy, I have my own taste.”
Jean has an eco boutique in Seattle. She has a natural talent for setting up displays and creating a lovely ambience in her store, which is not surprising, she’s also an excellent photographer and painter with a flair for fashion and decor.
Jean started blogging in 2011 and I’ve put together a collage of a few of her outfits. Her style is eclectic and never boring. Whether she’s dressed up in a DVF or dressed down in shorts, she always looks elegant and classy. (click on the first photo to go through the gallery)

Aww, Happy Birthday to your beautiful daughter! It’s so amazing when they’re little how they seem to acquire their own taste virtually overnight. I remember at age 9, wanting a purple “wet look” (remember that 70s fabric??) hot pant jumpsuit. TOTALLY out of my wheelhouse. And yet, my mother, to her credit, said “if that’s what you want,” and bought it for me. And do you think I EVER dared to wear such a thing out in public?? NOT ON YOUR LIFE, ha ha. And I’m sure she knew that. But she gave me the freedom to figure that out on my own. That was pretty cool of her.

Happy birthday Jean !! I love the photo of Jean as a young Girl sitting in the grass and holding a flower. She had her own style and ideas from an early age and kept her love of clothing up until the present day and is a boutique owner! You must be proud Carmen ! Thank you so much Terri! I was not with them when that photo was taken, Jean did her own pose. She is a blessing in our lives! Her dad had a tear in his eye as he looked at the picture yesterday and we talked about her being born 47 years ago. He said he remembers how happy he was to have a little girl, she’s daddy’s girl! 🙂
