What I wore to the Pioneer Tower

We used to live across the river from the Pioneer Tower for 25 years. The view of this century old tower took my imagination back to the fairytale stories of my childhood and I imagined Rapunzel living in a tower like this.

During our vacation in California in 2006, we were staying in Huntington Beach at an ocean-view hotel. We traveled along the Pacific Coast highway to beach towns, as far north as Malibu and down to San Diego. Stopping at some lovely beaches like Laguna Beach and Long Beach, where I bought this designer outfit in a little boutique in Long Beach.

The skirt and matching top have an asymmetrical design. I love the colours and unusual patchwork of various fabrics. It has an old-fashioned feel to it like something from medieval times yet with a modern twist. It seems timeless, still in style after all these years.

My faux suede boots were bought in Huntington Beach.

After this photoshoot we went for dinner to a new Mexican Restaurant in town and enjoyed a delicious bean burrito with brown rice, guacamole, tomatoes, corn and more.

This outfit is almost 12 years old, but has never been on my blog till now. Whenever I wear it, I think of our holiday in California, Christmas 2006.

Do you have clothes older than 10 years?

Have a marvellous Monday!

Awww thank you so much Mackenzie! Sometimes I’m almost camouflage – lol. Scenery and backgrounds are a part of the fun of blogging. We’re always on the lookout for an interesting backdrop. I can’t help seeing a spot and thinking, “That would make a fantastic background!” There are great places to discover without going far. Here are a few of my favourite photo spots.

So very Autumnal Carmen, I like it very much. Well old clothes… I had to say good bye to my black trousers I wore for an Interview in 2004. They just don’t fit anymore. As they are good quality I give them to the charity shop and I am always pleased to see that my sold items help. I have gift aid and get letters from them how much they received through my goods. My shape has slightly changed and I now feel better in more comfortable clothes, whereas I had tighter ones before sometimes. No more, so I don’t have that many old clothes left, due to the fact they don’t fit! :-(. However it makes room for new stuff and that is ok too. I do have some bits from my mum and that is really old…. 20/ 30 years.

Well, not to make you jealous, but I’ve had a scarf for 30 years and it still fits me! 😉 We also give clothes and things to charity too, it’s so good in many ways: keeps things out of landfills, someone else can use them and raises money for good causes. Wouldn’t it be nice if when our shape changes we could decide how to shape it? 😀

  4. Hi carmen, this outfit is just beautiful for fall! The patchwork fabrics are so unique . It seems the top is a hi lo from side to side. You do look great in the outfit , the boots are a good match . The tower is a great local treasure for you, I know you had it in photos a while ago. I do have clothes older than 12 years that I still wear and other items that need a good going through as to wether or not they will be worn again! Have a nice day, Terri xo.

Thank you so much Terri! You are very observant and quite right, this is the same tower for a photoshoot we did in the summer; such a pretty spot and yet I’ve only done two posts from this location. I plan to take my granddaughter there someday to play Rapunzel. 🙂 I need to sort through things again too. We’re planning a clothing exchange and then donate the rest to charity.

How beautiful is this tower! It really seems out of a fairy tale, where you would be the fairy godmother, the good fairy, the wonderful fairy! And your outfit also seems out of a beautiful story. The asymmetry has taken over your last outfits and I love that, for its originality and for its modernity. Your skirt is beautiful, I love this combination of colors and I also like the top, so original, so beautiful, so delicate on top of you. A wonderful set, perfect booties and accessories. Everything seems dreamy, everything seems to be taken from a beautiful story, everything seems designed for you to wear it, because who can be the most wonderful fairy in the forest?

How eloquently you write! Thank you so much for this wonderful comment! I would be a good fairy in the forest taking care of the little creatures! 🙂 As a fairy godmother, I would give every princess a pretty dress and a pair of dancing shoes! I would sprinkle fairy dust of kindness and compassion and I would banish evil from the kingdom forever! 🙂

Herzlichen Dank lieber Lu! To clarify, these photos were taken this month in Kitchener where I live. We used to live near the Pioneer Tower for 25 years. The outfit was bought in California 12 years ago. I’m glad to hear you have old clothes too! We live in a very wasteful world with much “wegwerfen” and we can each do our part to make it a better world. Let’s take care of our planet, it’s the only one we have! 🙂

      Liebe Grüße!

I do think this outfit is very from the times. Yet you wear it wonderfully now. It’s that asymmetrical part that I love so much.
And I have many coats that are this old or more so. My shoes rarely last that long unless I don’t love them. And I’ve changed sizes over the years, so many items have been donated. It’s my handknit sweaters that I really don’t give away, so many are almost 20 years old!!

Thanks so much Jodie! I’m happy I have a dressing room now that my children have grown up, so I tend to keep things way past their expiry date. But nowadays people wear vintage and whatever we please. I really love this outfit as much as when I bought it. It was one of those special splurges and more money than I normally spend on clothes. The boots were only $17. I only wear them in dry weather a few times a year (because I don’t want to wear them out–silly I know).
