Pattern Mixing: paisley and snakeskin

Never mix prints was a rule I learned early in life, but I broke that rule when I saw my daughter mixing patterns and many fashion bloggers do it too. I’ve tried it before and this time with a paisley jacket and snakeskin jeans.

I’m happy with the result because the denim jeans have two shades of blue, the same two shades of blue that are in the jacket. The jacket is quite colourful and since the jeans are more subtle, I think it works well so that the patterns don’t compete.

The jacket has every colour of the rainbow in it, so I can choose any colour top I desire.

Beret: thrifted
Jacket: Parsley and Sage (thrifted)
Top: Suzy Shier
Jeans: Nygard
ShoesSKECHERS Daddy’$ Money (denim fabric)

My tote (designed by Laurel Burch) adds another fun pattern with a cool cat, same colours as in the jacket. Shoes are secret wedges by SKECHERS in denim.

I wore an orange top (same orange as in the jacket) and topped it off with a bright orange beret (this shade is also in the jacket).

Voila! I love it!

Have you tried mixing patterns?

  2. Carmen, I love this whole fashion story, such a skillful use of patterns and your jeans are beautiful. Is that a Laurel Burch tote? I have a few pieces of hers and was wondering. Thank you for finding my 2nd Loved 1st Friday linkup. I hope you come back each month. Terri xox

Thank you so much Terri! YES! It’s a Laurel Burch tote! I have just added that to the description, thank you. Anyone who has any of her designs can spot one a mile away as you did! Isn’t her art amazing?! I bought it in a charming town, Niagara-on-the-Lake (near Niagara Falls, Ontario). I also found one of her bags in a thrift shop. How anyone could part with them is beyond me, I’m keeping them and leaving them in my will. Sadly, Laurel Burch passed away in 2007, age 61.

I’d like to be a regular on your 2nd Loved 1st Friday linkup! ❤️

What a beautiful look, my dear Carmen. What a beautiful combination of French look, casual look and look with romantic and delicate details. The print of the jacket is cute, and the print of your jeans are very nice. I love the design of your jacket, it is very original, as is the combination with the delicate beret. I like this casual look of this outfit, with the sneakers and the top lingerie mixed with the jeans, everything is originality, versatility and delicacy. It is to see Carmen more informal, but without losing a bit of all its attractiveness and its wonderful aesthetic presence.

Thank you dear Josep-Maria for this lovely review! It is a casual outfit but I hoped it still reflects my love of stylish clothes. The designer of the jacket is very talented. Sometimes I wish I knew who the designer is. 🙂

Thank you Patti! For my taste, subtle is safer. I want to have fun with fashion but I don’t want to look like a clown. Not that I have anything against clowns or people who want to dress like one, it’s just not my style. 😉

“Daddy’s Money” – a name that’s easy to remember! lol

I don’t think I do mix patterns, never really thought of it. If I have a patterened skirt I have a non patterened top. As jacket though it looks great on you, I do love that jacket. 🙂 Have a wonderful day Carmen. ♥

Exactly, that’s what I was taught: when you wear a blouse with a print, you wear a solid colour skirt or pants, with patterned pants or skirts you only wear a solid coloured top. Never mix patterns. Hope you’re enjoying the weekend. We’ve had more snow!
