No, I’m not in Seattle, but I’ll do the next best thing …

I love spending time looking through photos and today is a good day for remembering adventurous days in Seattle, my second home because Jean lives there. One of the things I enjoy anywhere I travel is strolling leisurely around neighbourhoods to admire homes and gardens, be it quaint little houses or million dollar mansions. It’s like a gigantic outdoor museum and it’s free and I get great exercise and fresh air.
You don’t have to own something to enjoy it. In fact, I don’t like gardening so I prefer the pleasure of seeing other people’s gardens–all the enjoyment without the work. Sometimes I get to chat with the residents; it’s easy to strike up a conversation when I tell them I’m visiting from Canada.
In random order I’ll take you down Memory Lane.
Up the stairs and beyond the gate is a mansion tucked away in Queen Anne neighbourhood.

An interesting apartment building on Capitol Hill. I’m sure the people who live in the penthouse have a fabulous view of the city.
One of my favourite areas in Seattle–Alki Beach–with a spectacular view of the city skyline.
The people living in this apartment building enjoy a fantastic view of Seattle. As do the following homes.
This house is across the street from the beach and I like how they’ve used driftwood for a rustic look in their front garden. Just my style, low maintenance: a few bushes, river stones, driftwood and an Adirondack chair to relax and enjoy the waterfront view. In Canada, we call this a Muskoka chair.
I’ve left my favourite house till last, also across the street from the beach with the gorgeous view. Reminds me of Germany, apparently German people live in it. I’d love these folks for my neighbours.

That’s for sure! The ninth photo was taken in January 2015. I could walk around with a light jacket, everything was green, no snow and lots of sunshine. A few photos were taken in autumn and the Alki Beach photos are from September 2016.

Hi Carmen, the last home with all the flowers on Alki is cared for by the guy who mows our lawn! He is the nicest person and so honest. He must think our yard is so boring because it really hasn’t any flowers at all. I like a simple yard, and like you, don’t enjoy gardening.

COOL!! So they do have a gardener. I wondered about that. Boring is not so bad, it means low maintenance and that suits me fine. 🙂 BTW you know our trip is postponed and not sure when. I’ll keep in touch. Are you still planning to come in the summer?

This year does have a happy surprise. A Grandbaby in early June! Did I already tell you that? Tomorrow we find out the gender of the baby. Very happy surprise indeed!
You’re right about the low maintenance. Can you imagine the work it takes to keep all those flowers looking like that?
I’m sad your trip is postponed, and we are still planning on coming your way. After April for sure. More like July. Is it too hot in August?

A fantastic post, dear Carmen, a magnificent report on that wonderful city. Seattle has always been famous for its architecture and for its quality of life, which is perfectly reflected in your article. Some mansions are spectacular and their inhabitants must be very lucky people. I hope that Jean, someday, can have a house like these, although it seems to me, from some of your photos, that she lives in a nice house. The post is magnificent, although I miss the best always in your posts … your image, your smile, your style!

I’m very happy you enjoyed my post dear Josep-Maria! Seattle is a beautiful city and this is only a tiny glimpse of a few homes. The first several houses are in Jean’s neighbourhood and her house is similar style: a very beautiful Mid-century bungalow with cedar siding, built in 1961, a charming retro classic. She has a lovely large backyard where she has a Catio (a fantastic outside enclosure for her three cats which they can access from the house on their own). Birds come to her garden and they will be safe from the cats. The cats are amused by watching the birds but they cannot harm them. So this way the cats have fresh air, exercise climbing up and down and great entertainment to watch squirrels and birds. 🙂

Yes, it’s far and that’s why I don’t get to visit my daughter often enough. North America is so big, from east to west is almost as far as flying to Germany. 😦

Loved that tour, I love walking round and looking at houses and gardens. Gives me ideas or just enjoyment. Easy to believe that Germans live in the last house, it looks it has German touch with those abundance of flowers. Lovely to look at. Thank you Carmen! ♥
