Staycation

Well, it looks like our vacation is going to be postponed, so we’ll enjoy a Staycation. We’ll need to stock up on food and supplies so we can hibernate in our cabin. With temperatures well below freezing, so cold, not even our grandchildren want to go tobogganing, I’ll wait till Frosty the Snowman melts and Old Man Winter and his son, Jack Frost, leave town and then we’ll go to Seattle in the spring.

This thrifted dress cheers me up because it’s so colourful. Looks like wool but is actually a very soft acrylic.

The back is different than the front.

Whoever designed it is very creative, love the little zipper that doesn’t actually zip (just a fun detail) it’s a faux zipper.

My little silver puzzle piece pendant is from Berlin made by an artisan.

Jean bought one too.

Baby, it’s cold outside! I’m staying in to cook a tasty lunch. We love Daiya (non-dairy) Cheezy Mac.

Since I can’t get out, I can spend some time in my photo booth. Love the vibrant colours, lively as my dress! 🙂

Maggie and I have get togethers with our grandchildren and so we planned an afternoon with them to play games and Karaoke. Too cold for tobogganing and playgrounds, but my two grandchildren always have fun climbing the railings, just as good as monkey bars!

I can’t find my car, it’s buried and lies frozen in the snow.

Perhaps I’ll have time to write my book.

  2. Hi Carmen, I am sorry your vaction got put on hold, you will have it to look forward to though! The acrylic dress is so pretty , I love the print , the back is a nice surprise , it really goes good together with a pair of tights. Cute jewellery to go with it too. Yes, it is disappointing, but I’ll make the best of it by getting caught up on chores and early spring cleaning. With this freezing weather, I’m staying home!

      Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks so much Violet! You must try it! Dairy was the hardest thing for me to give up because I loved cheese. Now I have something that tastes better and even the thought of drinking cow’s milk disgusts me. Strange how we can be conditioned to drink the excretion of another species and yet when we change our habits we wonder how we ever accepted it and thought it was normal. I avoid plastic like the plague!

      Stay warm!

      • I know exactly what you mean. I think cheese is the hardest thing to give up because of the addictive substance in it but I have found that once I’d overcome it, I had no interest in vegan ‘cheese’. I’ve also never liked pasta so I’ve never had Mac and cheese, vegan or otherwise. I’m so glad you’re enjoying it though 😀 You stay warm too – it sounds cold where you are. It’s pretty mild here at the moment ❤

Many people don’t know cow’s milk is addictive. It’s true, once you’re weaned from it, the craving is gone and it becomes repulsive. Having said that, I thoroughly enjoy my pasta with Daiya. 🙂

Dear Carmen, I feel that you should postpone your trip to Seattle, I know how much illusion it makes you. I hope the low temperatures do not affect you and your life is safe and calm. The object of the post is your wonderful dress, but I look at your beautiful kitchen, I love seeing the details of your daily life. In the kitchen you can see your personal style and sobriety in your vegan diet, so healthy and compassionate. The dress is cute, I love the details of the print and the curious details of the design. Red, black, white … very beautiful colors, and the funny butterflies to remember spring time. I love your accessories, always so beautiful and delicate, and I love how the dress looks on you, with it you look, as always, wonderful.

Thanks ever so much dear Josep-Maria! Your support is very encouraging to me. You know my blog includes many aspects of my lifestyle, including health, compassion, faith, as well as fashion and family life. As for this cold, it really depresses me. Although the view from my window is magical (sometime like a giant snow globe) I don’t even want to step outside the door anymore. It makes me shiver to my bones. My nose freezes instantly and the cold air takes my breath away.

As you can see in the first photo, there is a large picture of a window looking out to the sea. That is my fantasy. I long to live in a warmer country but it seems an impossible dream.

      Warm wishes!

        I can imagine!

Here in the fine Stuttgart area there is no coldness – so far – anywhere close in sight; the last weeks we always had between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius 🙂

Lots of heartily greeting from me to you, Lu

  6. Sometimes staycations are the most relaxing!

Well, this Staycation won’t be as relaxing as I’d like because I’m going to use it to clean and organize a mountain of work. I should take photos of before and after like you do. As for my car, it will have to wait till the snow melts because it doesn’t start in subzero weather anyway. 😦 It’s like most teenagers – 18 years old, looks good, but doesn’t work.

I can’t imagine you doing nothing Jodie! Seems like you’re always on the go! I may get cabin fever by the end of January, but I won’t be doing nothing. I have so much housework and paperwork and organizing to do. I still have boxes to unpack from our move 6 years ago. sigh

Thanks so much Patti! I only have a kitchen because it came with the house. I missed Kraft dinner after I became vegan, but this dairy-free Daiya tastes even better! Jean introduced me to it and I’m so glad she did. 🙂

Your house looks so much fun for children. My grandma’s house was the same and we loved the staircases and slid down the banisters. Oh the memories. 🙂 I have just booked short visits to my mum again, for February and April as it is still cheap right now. Staycation is good too! Love your book title…. ♥

Oh wait till you see my teddy bears and toys. My house is the Museum of Childhood. 🙂 My granddaughter loves setting up tea parties for the teddies and dolls. You’re so blessed to have economical flights to Germany. I’d go every year if I could. I’ll let you know when my book is finished. 😉

Thank you so much Maggie! You’re my inspiration for thrifting! Always stylish and looking so good!

Thanks for teaching us another way to play Chinese Checkers. Apparently there is more than one way to play the game. Your version is called “Fast-paced or Super Chinese Checkers”. Good to know!

Our get-togethers with our grandchildren are becoming a tradition! Let’s plan to take them hiking through the woods on March break. In the summer we’ll take them swimming again. Can’t wait for summer!
