The sunlight is flickering through the leaves as some are dancing to the ground. I watch from my window as the beauty of the glorious colours start to disappear, leaving the barren trees looking naked like skeletons. As night falls, the forest behind my house looks eerie and the coyotes’ howls are frightening, making me feel sorry for the creatures who need to survive in the cold, dark nights.
I feel safe to be in our cozy, warm home, snuggled up on the sofa with a hot cup of herbal tea and lemon.
It’s been an awesome Autumn, with days warm enough to go swimming at Lake Erie in October. (Not that I swim but I love walking along the beach.)
Yet autumn brings a certain melancholy feeling with it despite the beauty of the forest. Not because of autumn itself. I actually do enjoy this season with mild temperatures and many warm, sunny days to enjoy walks in the colourful woods, the sound of leaves crunching with each step and the fragrance of the pines.
The problem is that it will soon turn to winter–my least favourite season–and how cold it will get and how long winter will stay is depressing. I do try to make the best of it, but every year my dread of winter worsens and I find it harder to be positive and find anything good about Old Man Winter.
I find myself daydreaming of being a snowbird like some of my Canadian friends who are fortunate enough to fly south to Florida or Texas or Arizona and escape the winter and its furry. I would choose California. *big sigh*
So much for my annual autumn lament.
My granddaughter loves walks in the woods and scootering along the trails.
Here’s how I’ve enjoyed some fall days in my cozy sweatshirt. The artistic feather print and unfinished edges makes it not-just-another-boring sweatshirt.
Afternoons at the market …
A day trip to the little town of Elora …
My thrifted pleather purse is so soft and excellent quality with pockets and compartments inside and out.
I went to an upcycle event last Sunday and a lady had this feather necklace on, I had to think of you. It was just on a different chain but the same feather. I just had to come back to this post and check again. 🙂

Carmen, this post is very poetic. I had to read through it twice. Thanks for sharing those gorgeous pictures. I’m battling getting use to the dampness and cold coming and these remind me to enjoy the fall colors. Darling sweater and accessories! I had to look to see if the top was still available….nope! Oh well…
Happy Thanksgiving!

Oh my, what a lovely thing to say Joni! And I had to read your kind comment twice! 😊 You brought a smile to my heart! ❤️
I’ve already been thinking of places to take you when you come to Ontario. I’ll share the plans with you when I’m in Seattle.
Too bad the sweatshirt is no longer available, I’ll check my store in case they still have some.
Happy Thanksgiving!

What wonderfully colourful forest with all different shades of Autumn colours. Such great pictures. I do prefer warmer weather too and not too much Winter, still I do like my knitwear though. Your feather sweatshirt is lovely and the Jewellery I love in particular, so matching with the shirt. I could easily join you in flying south for Winter. Bit of warmth. Still cosy to sit on the sofa and sip a warm tea. That is also lovely with a candle! Warm hugs!

Thank you so much Ute! Oh yes, candles create the perfect ambiance, especially since we don’t have a fireplace. I’m already decorating for Christmas today and playing Christmas music.

Wow , early. I never start before 1st December, because it is my son’s Birthday on 27th November and I do want it separate. Birthday first, then Christmas… ♥

All three of my children are born within a month of Christmas (different years, of course) two of them in December, so it’s all part of our Christmas season. I’ll be showing some of my decorations, here’s a sneak preview of my nutcrackers (Made in Germany) taken today.
Hope this inspires you! ❤️

Thank you very much Margot! I’m happy if I can change your mind about autumn! Ours has been exceptionally lovely this year. Now if spring could start right after Christmas, it would be perfect! We could still have snow in the mountains for those who like to ski. Isn’t that a good idea? 🙂

Hi Carmen, I am dreading the onset of winter too! All the pretty colors make way for a bleakness lasting months. I love the fall, the leaves and temps are perfect. I guess it is nessecary to go through winter before the first signs of life again in spring. I love the great photos of you at the farmers market, cute sweater and pants! I do love your purse , good to have many compartments and even better when it is thrifted! Have a beautiful day, hugs Terri xo.

Thanks so much Terri! It was particularly busy at the market that day because the weather was so gorgeous. People were lined up to take photos and I actually volunteered to take photos while I waited my turn. People thanked me and asked if I was a photographer. 🙂

What lovely autumn photos in Ontario, it’s a beautiful landscape that I would love to visit. Some Canadians travel to the south of the United States, but you could travel to Catalonia, here also the climate is mild (LOL). How beautiful to see your granddaughter enjoying the autumn and the landscape, she seems very happy. And your look? Beautiful pants, a style and color that is not very common in you. They look beautiful on you and the look is perfect with the shirt printed with beautiful leaves. You always appear surrounded by beauty in your photos, surrounded by beautiful natural and urban spaces, but your presence makes them even more wonderful, because there is nothing more beautiful than you.

I’m so happy you like my autumn photos in Ontario. I took the photos in this post (except for the ones of me). I love photography and capturing moments to enjoy long after the trees lose their leaves. This forest and river are not far from my house. It is the Grand River, the same river where I once lived and had a spectacular view of it from my window!
My outfit is specially for walking in the forest. 🙂 It was a lovely autumn day, as you see, my granddaughter is only wearing a T-shirt and leggings. The print is actually feathers but it looks like leaves. I added a photo of my jewellery, which are imitation feathers.
Catalonia remains a dream, I imagine it is as lovely as California. Thank you for the invitation. LOL

Thank you for visiting and taking time to comment, Mihran! Indeed, it is like paradise in autumn, so fresh and serene, such vibrant colours! I truly enjoy the beauty of the forest in autumn! We have a beautiful forest behind our house, but no river. 😦
