The Apollo Theater in Harlem is where the Queen of Jazz, Ella Fitzgerald, began her career on Amateur Night. She was often referred to as the First Lady of Song and noted for her amazing scat singing.
Many famous singers and musicians have performed at the Apollo, including my favourite jazz singer Etta James, I love her song At Last.
Jimi Hendrix won the first place prize in an amateur musician contest at the Apollo in 1964.
Other performers whose careers started at the Apollo include Billie Holiday, Pearl Bailey, Sammy Davis Jr., James Brown & The Famous Flames, King Curtis, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Parliament-Funkadelic, Wilson Pickett, The Miracles, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Rush Brown, Stephanie Mills, Dionne Warwick, Bobby Short, The Jackson 5, Patti LaBelle, Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Ben E. King, Mariah Carey, The Isley Brothers, Lauryn Hill, Sarah Vaughan, Jazmine Sullivan, Ne-Yo, and Machine Gun Kelly.
I bought this cute little jacket in Harlem across the street from the Apollo. It’s a heavenly shade of blue, soft mesh fabric with a handkerchief hem and two big coconut buttons.
I wore it over a white top and also with a blue top.
The front of this top has a keyhole opening and the back has a mesh detail.
Harlem has many sidewalk cafes and restaurants. Harlem Burger has delicious veggie burgers.
Lovely to sit outside on a warm day in August.
Happy Labour Day weekend my friends!
Earth, Wind and Fire performed at the Apollo. We danced to this song in class today.
haha and don’t we know it that when you like sth. you buy it twice hihi and right you are !!!! How pretty these little tops are, so light and yet elegant and stylish. NY – my dream, which will most probably never come true so your review is for me like a deep breath. Lovely :)))) Kisses – Margot :))))

Thanks very much Patti! We stayed in Harlem so we enjoyed a walk around the neighbourhood every day: very friendly and safe. Morningside Park is 2 blocks away and my favourite park–Central Park–is also walking distance.

How many interesting things have you visited in NYC! It is wonderful to be able to enjoy so much beauty and culture. NYC is a fantastic city and during these days of your visit, she has been even more beautiful. Why your walks and visits through its streets, wearing your beautiful outfits and walking your beautiful smile sure they admired its inhabitants. I love the simplicity of today’s look, that beautiful jacket and that beautiful combination, delicate and soft. I love this top with this beautiful watermark on the neck. Carmen and her capri, Carmen and all the beauty … Always wonderful!

I forgot … I love the leaf on your arm, the Canadian symbol. I always said that you were the best symbol of your country.

How very kind of you to call me the best symbol of Canada! As you know, the little maple leaf is not a real tattoo, but it’s fun to wear while in the States so people know I’m Canadian. 🙂

Thank you so much dear Josep-Maria! The little jacket came in white also, but not my size. While you have been hiking through the scenic mountains of your beautiful country, I have enjoyed walking the streets and parks of NYC. Quite a contrast, yet both are wonderful ways to enjoy our vacations! 🙂 We have a holiday today in Canada and the USA.
Espero una semana maravillosa!

That jacket is so cute!! I can’t decide if I like it better with the white, or the blue.
Is your maple leaf tat real? I noticed you still have it from that other post. I had thought it was a temp one?
Love Earth Wind, and Fire!!

Thank you Melinda! I have a hard time with decisions so I often buy the same thing in two colours. As you’ll see in my next post I bought the same jacket in black.
So you noticed my little maple leaf tattoo again, eh? Well, you’re not the only one that thinks it’s real. A Fireman in NYC asked if it was real. Here’s my secret, it’s temporary but I have several of these stickers and they last about a week because I wash around them. But don’t tell anyone. 😉
