Faux is the way to go

I’m finally old enough to wear leopard. Yes, leopard used to be for old ladies when I was growing up. I had leopard-print PJs as a teenager but never wore leopard-print in public.

Version 2

Now during my *ahem* mature years, I’m love love lovin’ leopard-print!

My coat is thrifted, made in USA, bought a couple of years ago.

What a great find to discover the matching hat this fall, made in Canada and also thrifted. Coincidently, it’s the exact same fabric.

We’ve had a lovely autumn with many mild days and glorious colours.

I’ve been asked—why am I wearing a leopard coat if I’m vegan?
Ummm … because it’s fake! I have the look without cruelty.

My daughter Jean has a special event every month at her eco boutique Drizzle and Shine to support compassionate causes. While I was in Seattle, she had a sale 10% off everything in the store, as well as 10% of sales going to Fur Bearer Defenders.

Please take a moment to check out the links that will inform us of the needless suffering of countless sentient beings and how we can all help animals simply by not buying animal products.

These are the beautiful animals they kill for Canada Goose jackets. You wouldn’t buy coats made with dog fur, then please don’t contribute to this cruelty. Thank you!

I love faking it when it comes to fur. I will not support the cruel fur industry and I am happy that so many people feel the same. Let’s make it a kinder world! 🙂

  6. Love that faux leopard jacket and hat! Animal prints are timeless. I recently acquired an authentic 1960s faux leopard coat and I’m anxiously waiting for it to get cool enough down here in Florida to wear it. Can’t wait!
    Have a great day 🙂

I completely agree, Theresa! Leopard pattern is timeless, after all leopards have been wearing it forever! We can imitate the beauty of the leopard without cruelty to animals! Animal prints will never go out of style.

You mean to say that it gets cold enough in Florida to wear a coat? I will be happy to see yours and would love to put a post together in January showcasing fashion bloggers who choose faux fur instead of animal skin.

This print, honestly, is not my favorite. I do not like the use of animal skins, and this, even if it is false, reminds me of that cruelty. Your cause against the abuse of animals is magnificent and you know that you have my sympathy, but you would be much more beautiful with your wonderful proposals in other canvases. Your appearance, with the cap and trousers with socks is nice and fun, but I prefer other of your beautiful proposals.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment. I’m glad we are both compassionate and care about animals. Animals must not suffer and die for fashion. The barbaric fur farms and torturous traps used for wildlife is extremely cruel.

Oleg Cassini, who designed many outfits for Jackie Kennedy, designed a leopard skin coat for her which influenced many women around the world to buy leopard coats in the ‘60s. About 250,000 leopards were killed. Because of this, Mr. Cassini stopped using animal fur and began to design only with faux fur.

Fur and leather production uses so much chemicals and pollutes the environment. It is not eco-friendly as they would like to pretend. Some fur and leather also comes from dogs and cats.

Animal print was one of my mother’s favourites and it was my mom that bought leopard print pyjamas for me and for her. She often bought the same clothes for me as for herself. They were capri pyjamas because my mother also liked capris.

Animals are beautiful and to imitate them does not harm them. I still see women in magazines and fashion blogs as well as on the streets wearing real fur. This makes me very sad and thus I try to show that we can copy animals without hurting them. I have done several posts about my faux furs for that reason, so show fashion with compassion.

On this topic, leather is also animal skin and I buy shoes which imitate the look of leather but is not made from animals. 🙂

I do appreciate your thoughts. I do understand your reason, that it reminds you of real fur, which is so cruel and is something we both abhor.

      With compassion,

I LOVE the coat and hat! What a score. I found a leopard print velvet coat at a local consignment shop a few years back and even though it was too big I bought it anyway. I ended up not wearing it because of the size so I redonated it. But, I so wish I had one again! It looks so great on you. You look like a model celebrity right out of the 60’s here. Like you must have hung out with Joni Mitchell! Very cute Carmen!

Thank you for your sweet comment Joni! My leopard print coat and hat are velvet. The good thing about thrifting is that you can redonate them, but what a pity that it was too big!

      Have a great weekend!
