Leaving on a Jet Plane

John Denver’s song comes to mind every time I hear the mighty engines roar and the big silver bird takes to the sky (I’ve plagiarized a little from Gordon Lightfoot’s song In the Early Morning Rain).

All my bags are packed–with black and white clothes. I decided to pack only black and white outfits so I can mix and match easily. Plus, I’m a minimalist when traveling, that leaves room for purchases made while on holidays. Bonus: no need to wait for luggage after the flight because I have one carryon. On the way home–well that’s another story.

Destination: Seattle, my second home. This is my first time seeing my daughter Jean’s new eco boutique—Drizzle and Shine.

What an awesome shop, beautifully stocked with organic, fair trade and eco fashion! Perfect place for a shopping spree! This store is the epitome of fashion with compassion: for people, animals and our world.

My first dress: can be worn as a tunic. Made in USA

    Hi Carmen ,
I really love the store of Jean, it looks awesome, i love to shop in stores like that you can find nice clothes and shoes and they are eco and animal friendly plus you contribute with the local economy supporting designers from the U.S. and honestly with better quality than stuff made in China. I hope one of these days I can visit Jean’s store. You look wonderful in your dress/tunic really lovely on you !
    Have a nice day !

Thank you so much Margot! The best part is shopping in a store that I know everything is cruelty-free and fair trade. Garment workers are paid fair wages and good conditions. Many things are made in the USA and local artisans. I’m happy that my daughter has followed her dream.

Thank you my dear Ileana! We are enjoying the last of the summer days here in this unforgettable city; you know how beautiful it is.

I am very happy to see Jean as you can imagine, her store is so beautiful, all clothes are organic, cruelty-free and nothing is bought from companies that abuse the workers (such as the Bangladesh tragedy). I will show more on my blog.

Jean’s store is on Capitol Hill, so I’ve had a chance to meander around the neighbourhood and went to a museum and a beautiful park overlooking Seattle.

Hope you spent some lovely days in Niagara Falls! We’ll share stories and photos next time we get together.

Ha ha! Yes, it should be, “my bag is packed” but that wouldn’t sound as good with John Denver’s song. Besides, I also had a VERY large tote as a purse, because we are allowed two carryons. So technically, I had two bags: my large purse and a small suitcase.

I’m enjoying my shopping spree at Jean’s store, so I will need another suitcase on the way home. 🙂

Enjoy the last of the summer days at sunny Sable Beach!

How fun to have a boutique in the family!!!
I love the idea of a B & W theme for travelling…but I’m such a color girl that it might make me crazy (crazier than normal, i should say). I should try it though—it could make life easier!

Thank you Jodie! It does make it easier, but I’v’e already bought several things in living colour in Jean’s store, so I won’t be black and white anymore while I’m here. As much as I love black and white, I love colours too!

      Have a colourful weekend!

Thank you Maggie! I’m enjoying these last days of summer here in Seattle. We’ve been to three fabulous vegan restaurants so far. The photo looks a little purplish because the lights were dim, creating a lovely evening ambience.

      Happy dancing!

Great, you are already in Seattle, with Jean! For you to be minimalist clothing has no merit, why, with your natural beauty, any look is perfect! You do not need additives, no ties, no complications, you are naturally beautiful! I wish you to spend a few precious days …

Thanks so much Josep-Maria! Seattle is a beautiful city. Yesterday we went to Alki Beach, a lovely place where we can see the spectacular view of the Seattle skyline. It even has the Statue of Liberty (a replica and smaller than the one in New York City).

      Happy weekend!
