Genuine Vintage German Cape

… and still in style!

My black cape was a gift from my grandmother when she came to visit from Germany in the ’60s. It is timeless and I still wear it. It always makes me think of her.

She also gave me two scarves with matching gloves that I showed recently–Royal Stewart tartan. and black and white plaid.

Do you have clothes that were gifted from someone you love that make you smile?

  1. Your post made me smile, as I also have a vintage cape. When my Mother died, a few years ago, at 94 years old, I inherited it, – my sisters didn’t want it! I think its 60’s or possibly early 70’s and still looks like new. Its greeny blue mohair, with a little collar. I love for spring or early autumn and looks good over a plain black maxi dress. 🙂 xx

What a wonderful piece! And to think that it was given to you by your grandma! Simply amazing, and how cool it is that you still can wear it! And not just wear it but look so stylish in it! I have a cardigan that was gifted to me by my husband when we were not yet married, it is almost 30 years old but I keep it 🙂

Thanks so much Olga! How nice that you treasure the cardigan your husband gave you, of course, it has special meaning because of your love for each other. So it is actually the giver who makes the gift a special item! 🙂

      Happy Easter!

  4. Very lovely outfit, made beautiful by your smile! I share this poem I wrote with you!I I am always moved by warm, soft, selfless genuine smiles…and you possess one of the best.

    A Genuine Smile

A genuine smile joyfully brings to a day
Much more value than one really knows
It’s more than the gold light of the sun
More soothing than the moons soft glow

It reaches down deep within one’s heart
Making such inspired feelings to arise
It makes a loves flame leap forward
From the dormant place where it might lie

It causes a young heart to begin to pound
And it brings about a shortness of breath
It adds new meaning to life in one’s mind
Along with a radiance that will always last

It’s a treasure chest full of beautiful gems
More valuable than a pearl of great worth
For a genuine smile is valued so much more
Than any treasure to be found on this earth.

Carmen thanks for always sharing such a beautiful genuine smile my sister! Hugs!

Thank you so much dear Wendell, I am deeply touched! What a lovely poem!! You have brought a smile to my heart! 🙂 A smile is something we can share so easily and can mean so much. The real joy I feel is God’s everlasting love for us, the abundant blessings He has bestowed on us, His amazing grace and the peace He gives to our hearts through all circumstances!

Thank you for sharing your gift of words! Words that encourage and bless!!

      Happy Easter!

My dear Carmen. That beautiful coat, and they look nice your outfits. I love scarves and gloves with plaids, both are precious. You’re a beautiful woman with Scottish airs. I would be able to wear a kilt to walk with you and dance … I love your hair and your hair is so delicate and smooth. You look really nice in these pictures, because your smile … love the audience.

Thank you my dear Josep-Maria! It is special to have these memories. I do like tartan and plaid, something that looks good on men too. You would look good in a kilt. 🙂 I go to a dance sometimes where men wear kilts and it is very Scottish.

      Warm wishes!

Thank you Rebecca! Today was freezing and snowing, it doesn’t look like spring at all. I still have to wear warm jackets and coats. With the exception of a few mild days just to tease us, then BAMMM comes more snow! Looks like we’ll have a white Easter.

      Happy Easter!

My dear mother was very talented in knitting and crosheting and made me beautiful pullovers and blouses I brought with me when immigrated to Canada. They are the closest things to my heart and, whenever I touch them, I feel like touching my dearest mother’s hands!
You look so pretty in that cape with both sets of scarves and gloves. Lovely combinations, good taste as usual!

What a great cape and such good quality for being over 50 years old. It looks so lovely with your different matching gloves and scarf. We got it cool still as well here. I have been out shopping and just saw these long Palazzo Trousers I had to have for summer. As being tall it is always hard to get long legs, and they are perfect. Now I cannot wait for summer… They are white and blue striped and I got a lovely blue top with it. I wish it warmed up soon…. Warm hugs to you my beautiful Carmen!

Thank you very much dear Ute! I do take care of my things and it is German quality. I had to replace the buttons a few years ago (they were cracking).Plus, I only wear it two or three times a year. Capes are not as practical as they look in the last scene of SOUND OF MUSIC, and it’s not warm enough in the Canadian winters.

Your Palazzo trousers sound cool–hope you feature them in a future post. I will be so happy if you do another post for me like you did with dancing!! I really enjoyed it and you are an excellent dancer!! 🙂

      Blessings and warm hugs!!
