If you can’t beat ’em – join ’em

It’s no secret that I am not a fan of this season, but I can’t hibernate all winter.

This sled is not just a decoration on my front porch. It is made in Germany and we bought it for our daughter Jean when we lived there in 1982. Since then our two boys have used it and now our grandchildren.

I used to cross-country ski (sold my skis at a garage sale some years ago) and I enjoyed skating (can’t find my skates since 2012 when we moved). Now I walk through the woods and go tobogganing when necessary.

Red and black have been my go to colours this winter. Bright and cheerful, and fashionable for tobogganing with my grandchildren last Sunday. It was a perfect day, sun shining and the temperature was bearable.

Robins inspire me with their very fashionable look in black and red.robin

Temperatures have been rising this week and all that snow has melted including this snowman. Goodbye Frosty!

That does look like a good old German “Schlitten” we had one too… and I always wanted to sit second… I was a bit afraid on the front… in case we go into a tree… hehe. We did have great fun when I was young. Now the area we used to go is all built full with houses, shame. You had certainly fun there!

Ha ha – I knew you’d recognize the German Schlitten Ute! Awww yes, it was a ton of fun … because I went with my grandchildren, otherwise I would have preferred going to the Butterfly Conservatory and enjoy some jungle weather! I hope that was the last time on the Schlitten for this year!

      Happy Sunday!

Awww…I miss such winter activities! Winter on sunny slightly frosty days is not that bad 🙂 You look gorgeous in your “robin” outfit, such a nice contrast against the snow!

Thanks so much Olga! I can honestly say, I would never miss the snow! I lived in Costa Rica and it was wonderful to enjoy eternally warm weather! In fact, an American radio station announcer reports, “It’s 75 in Paradise!” every day. I love it when we can escape to Costa Rica, California, Seattle or Florida for even a few weeks in winter.

      Enjoy!!

Just checked the weather report in Costa Rica for today …

and for those who use celsius …

I love your red coat! you look great. I really like those photos on the sledge. My mother once tried to drive a sledge and the two of us (I was a little girl then) crashed so bad. I always joked about it, because it was when my dad took us skiing and my mother (who originates from one of Croatian island’s) hasn’t ever seen snow before…so it is good we didn’t break our bones….I still don’t have snow skills, whenever it snows in Mostar, I always keep falling while I’m walking.

Thank you Ivana! I’m glad you shared a little about your snow adventures, and that there were no broken bones! It can be very dangerous. My brother had a terrible skiing accident as a teenager. Must be nice to live on a Croatian island with NO snow!!

Take care when you walk in the snow my dear! I slipped and fell in February even though I have lots of experience walking in snow.

      Happy Sunday!

Thank you very much Dan! The return of the robins is a happy event! I think they are a little confused because of all the snow they can’t build their nests yet. But it is a sign that spring will come again to Canada!

Children never complain that there is too much snow 🙂 I wouldn’t go tobogganing without my grandchildren, but that’s the fun of children, you get to enjoy some fun activities from our childhood days. To see the pleasure in their faces makes it all worth while.

      Happy Sunday!

  10. I wish I had your sense of style! When it’s freezing cold outside, I just want to wear my flannel leggings and comfy sweatshirt and sit in front of the fireplace. 🙂

Thank you so much Pam! Well, if I had a fireplace that’s where I’d want to be right now. However, I am thankful for a warm bed so I will put on some comfy PJs!

Thank you very much Melinda! We can learn a lot from Robins about colour coordination. Actually, God is the BEST designer, just look at all the different birds he created, the variety of flowers are amazing, the glorious sunsets and colours of the rainbow! God is AWESOME!!!

I do take care of things so they last a long time. The sled is showing some wear now, which reminds me of a funny story my mom told me as a child. Do you have time to hear it?

      Blessings!!

A lovely post. It’s wonderful to see you enjoy with your grandchildren. My Snow Queen having fun with kids and vintage sled, is a delicate, tender and bucolic picture, which I love and makes me happy. And I opined your beauty dressed in black and red, a perfect match for you. What can I say about the wonderful figure showing your leggings? What can I say about your delicate and elegant style of dress the beautiful jacket and beautiful accessories? The most beautiful of grandmothers, the sweetest women …
