I LOVE BERLIN

Berlin is the New York City of Germany! This was my first visit to this fascinating city and what made it most special is that I went there with Jean and we got to go to the world’s first Vegan Avenue & Veganz Grocery Store!

a delightful experience!!

New York being the largest city in the United States, Berlin is the largest city in Germany. Berlin is the Capital and has so many interesting attractions, both historical and contemporary.

The Hop on Hop off bus made for an easy tour around town before we got off at our Airbnb near Mauer Park. Walking along the path (part of no man’s land) to our condo was rather a strange feeling.

First night in Berlin we met some new compassionate friends and enjoyed a delicious vegan dinner at a vegan meetup–BERLIN VEGAN DRINKS. The rustic, outdoorsy decor was so unique and perfect for a warm summer evening in the city.

From vegan clothing stores and shoe shops to vegan grocery stores and restaurants Jean and I made some great purchases and dined in style. (No slave labour–no child labour!)

Dear Goods

Sidewalk cafe at Veganz Grocery store for a bite to eat while shopping at Dear Goods clothing boutique (Fair Trade) and Avesu vegan shoes. (More fashion photos in future posts.)

The trip to the top of the Berlin Tower proved to be worth the long wait in line.

Shopping, scouting out flea markets, art markets and thrift shops was all part of the fun; we found some unique things to bring home.

“The Brandenburg Gate lies at the heart of Berlin, the one remaining of four original city gates which were part of the historical Prussian capital. Like many of the great landmarks of Berlin it was devastated in the Second World War, but has been immaculately restored.” Wikipedia

Meeting up with my cousin Peter was a double pleasure: chatting with him and enjoying a vegan ice cream treat. He was gracious enough to follow us to some fashionable boutiques and then escort us back to our condo, where we enjoyed going to the nearby Beer Garden.

Last, but certainly not least, was Peter taking me on a cruise on the Spree River to view the city from a different perspective.

Wow…lots of responses to this blog….what’s not been said.
Like others, I enjoy “armchair” traveling with you. All your unique purchases must have required an extra or, at least, a larger suitcase…..hahaha…

I always like water …rivers, lakes, etc. …and have enjoyed river cruises on our trips……it is great to have a river running through your city……whether it is in Berlin or Paris, France or right here at home….

It is marvelous that the people of Berlin have restored so many magnificent landmarks.

Hooray for the Vegans of Berlin. Janet’s cousin in Vancouver just holidayed at friends cottage for 2 weeks…..they are Vegan and Louise quite enjoyed the vegan experience…..she just bought a vegan cookbook…..I have facebooked her some posts and have invited her to “like” Vegan Street.

Thank you very much Bob! I’m glad you’re enjoying my life adventures while “arm-chair” traveling with me! 🙂 You guessed right, I did need an extra, larger suitcase for this trip. 🙂

It’s amazing how Berlin and other cities have been restored and built up since WWII. Vegan Street was a joy to experience and I’m glad you’re on the vegan journey, we’re a growing community! Here’s to your health my dear friend!

Thank you Suzanne and I love that you wrote “moral sensibilities” – for me it is more than a healthy lifestyle: it is about compassion for our fellow earthlings and makes my heart happy when I can do something by voting with my dollars! 🙂

      Wishing you health and happiness!!

    Hi Carmen,
Thanks to share your wonderful pics, it is like an open window and traveling to your pictures to that amazing historical city, I have few pics of Berlin (Reichstag, Bradenburg gate, etc) from relatives but before WWII and it seems that city has changed a lot ! now it looks modern but keeping their traditional and historic buildings. Love the colorful roofs! You, ladies look wonderful and radiant in your outfits, a nice trip of mom and daughter in a wonderful town. Love your pics !!

    Have a good day

Thank you so much Ivan! It was wonderful to travel with my daughter to Berlin, we just loved it! I’m glad you enjoy looking through my “open window” to travel with us! You are quite right, the city has changed dramatically since WWII and yet so much has been restored and preserved since that dreadful time! Tragically, the loss of lives caused by wars can never be replaced.

What the world needs more is LOVE and COMPASSION!!

Thank you so much Jess! I’m sorry to hear you have been sick and sincerely hope you are getting better every day! I am behind in my blogging communication with you and my dear fellow bloggers, as it has been an extremely busy summer with traveling and life in general is VERY hectic and stressful at the moment. I thank God for my health, but I pray I can get through all the trials and difficulties!

      Hugs and love!!
