STUTTGART: where my story begins

StuttgartStuttgart is the San Francisco of Germany; with hills all around, there’s always a spectacular view. It is the capital of Baden-Württemberg. The horse is the coat of arms of Stuttgart (meaning STUD GARDEN).

The Fernsehturm was closed while I was there, but at least I got a few photos.

And while we were in the area, my cousin took me to the house where I was born in Degerloch. Marion is very artistic with a camera and loves to take German angle shots.

The city is full of historical sights as well as modern malls and charming sidewalk cafes.

Shopping is always a pleasant experience, especially because of the pedestrian zones, where no cars are allowed: makes parking difficult but shopping is easy and fun. Here’s my first things I bought: this cardigan at ONLY …cardiganpretzel… and pretzel earrings at Gerber mall which goes with my pretzel necklace that I bought in Berlin later.

I Bought this dress on sale at ZERO for 20 Euros. It rained one day so I had to buy an umbrella with little hearts! I love ❤ s

We went to Killesberg park and took a little train ride around this beautiful park. For the adventurous, there’s a tower but no elevator, just a stairway to heaven and a glorious view of Stuttgart!

The gardens are amazing and you can imagine the fragrance!

    Are pretzels (Bretzels) necessarily vegan?

      Good question Bob! No, not necessarily. I asked to be sure and the bakery where I bought them from said they are made with flour, water and salt (no eggs, dairy or lard). At one time lard was used but now most use butter, margarine or vegetable oil. It’s always best to ask. Fortunately, nowadays food-labeling is mandatory. I’m happy to say, vegans are a growing population in Germany and restaurants and grocery stores are carrying vegan options.

    How delightful post. It aroused in me the desire to visit to Stuttgart. We have been in many towns in Germany, but Stuttgart in unknown for us. Your beautiful photos are very inspiring and they presented what to see there. The huge pretzel was cool. 🙂

    You look so youthful (as always) and playful suspended above the trampoline…..reminds me of a “hover” in dance moves.
    It is a joy to revisit the home one grew up in. Was anybody there to give you a guided tour in your childhood home.
    Both Janet and I have been fortunate to visit our homes that we grew up in and to have the current owners generously show us around inside and outside.

      Thank you dear Bob! When I grow up, I will stop jumping on trampolines!

      This house was a birth clinic when I was born but now it is a private residence. However, I should have knocked on the door; it would have been interesting to speak with the owners. I did have a chance to see the house in Willowdale, where I spent my early teen years. Marion came with me last October and that was the house she remembers when she came to visit us in the 60s.

      That’s for sure Suzanne! I’m glad I went. I don’t have as much money in the bank anymore, but making memories is worth more than gold!

    Oh Carmen, I love it, Stuttgart is such a lovely town and I always loved the shopping street with no cars. It is funny you were born in Degerloch. My dad was from Stuttgart and we went often on weekends to Stuttgart to visit his parents who lived in Degerloch. Your house looks similar to theirs then. It brings back lovely memories. I am so happy you love it too. And of course the Bretzel, eat them there too and I always buy one at the Airport before I fly back to London to bring to my children. You certainly had fun!
