Magnolia Blossoms

happy spring

One of my favourite things about spring is blossoms; it’s breathtaking to see a magnolia tree in full bloom! Even as petals flutter to the ground, the sight is so romantic. Unfortunately, they are gone too quickly, like bubbles in champagne.

Finally, we had a warm, sunny day and I wore this tunic; it is gathered below the waist.

DSC00022I’m breaking a fashion rule; women over 40 are not supposed to wear sleeveless tops or dresses. Do you agree?

DSC00021I love the black and white pattern, and the little cut-out at the neckline.

close-upI bought these sandals in Costa Rica (made in Costa Rica). I can change the straps: black, beige and dusty rose to match different outfits.

Yikes, Carmen. You are living proof that women over 40 should wear what they want … and so often sleeves are uncomfortable in miserable summer weather. You look lovely, of course, as that is your standard mode of operation and existence!
I do it all summer. I have to. Or I’d fry ( I’m not so delicate as to be able to melt.) That’s not to say I should. You’ll never see me sleeveless from behind in any photo… too scary to risk the kids seeing it. But I just pretend it’s not obvious, soothe my insecurities with the assertion that I can wear what I want because I’m old and live in Hell and go on.
Nope, some of us would look better with sleeves, but none of us should be shamed into wearing them. It’s hot!

  2. Definitely women over 40 can wear sleeveless outfits – especially if their arms look like yours! 🙂

Thank you dear Julie! My mom always wore sleeveless dresses and tops in the summer. In fact, all her summer dresses and summer tops were sleeveless, so I grew up thinking that’s normal, and only found out a couple of years ago when I started blogging that there’s a rule about that. Too late, I’m way past 40 and over 60, so I’m not giving up sleeveless dresses now.

Nice to keep in touch, are you coming to Ontario this summer? Sure hope we can go to VegOut for a tasty vegan dinner!

      Have a wonderful week!!

  4. Our magnolias have already come and gone. Much too short! But they were pretty while they lasted. I don’t know who makes up silly rules but I would definitely break that one. Lovely tunic. the cutout is fun!

I too adore magnolia blossoms. Plus I wouldn’t worry one bit about wearing whatever you want when you have your rockin’ toned bod! : )

Nobody believes or thinks you are over 40; thus, sleeveless is very appropriate to highlight your youthfulness and to enhance your beauty, style and gracefulness on the dance floor yesterday.

  9. Rules are meant to be broken and so does the one about the sleeves. As long as the arms are looking good, as yours do, go for it! lovely summery outfit! Sara

Them magnolia tree is so beautiful, and you look gorgeous in your outfit! 🙂 I think that no matter what age you are, you can make your own fashion rules: if you look good in sleeveless tops/dresses, then wear it! 😉 xo, Violet

You look so beautiful on the background of these adorable magnolia trees! Your sandals are definitely chic! I wish I had something similar, soon going to Europe, need something light. I never wear anything flat, so I always am in search for comfortable high-heel shoes or sandals.
Thanks for inserting the link! Have a great Sunday!

You are very welcome dear Inese!

My sandals are light weight and the changeable straps makes them ideal for traveling. You must be very elegant indeed, if you never wear flats. Heels are so much more flattering, but it’s important to have comfortable ones if you need to walk a distance, especially when traveling.

      Have a wonderful week!

I love magnolia blossoms, they are so beautiful. Funny I never liked sleeveless dresses or tops, but now being more confident I do have some I like. Your tunic looks great, love the style. I think i need to get more shorter leggings, as it looks great with good sandals…..just bought myself a nice pair. 😊

Thank you my dear Ute! When I was 40, I became a little self conscious about wrinkles on my elbows, but now that I’m in my 60s, I have more confidence! 😉 Life has enough rules, seems a lot of people like making them, but I don’t follow rules anymore, as long as no one gets hurt.

      Have a wonderful week!
