Bad Hair Day

A bad hair day makes a good hat day! I love hats and I have so many lovely hats, but don’t wear them often enough. I bought this black crocheted hat in California.

I haven’t seen this much snow in my life and the weather has been bitter cold. Don’t let the sun and my smile fool you, it’s freezing!! The house in the background is not mine. It’s for sale and I had a peak inside. It was originally a general store, built ca. 1850 and converted to a house. Inside has been completely renovated to a beautiful open concept living room/dining room and modern kitchen, and spa-like bathrooms, yet keeping some of the character of the house: wooden beams and original wooden plank floors.

bitter coldDays like these I go from the house to the car (just a 15 sec. photo shoot nearly froze my nose and toes) and from the car to wherever I’m going–in this case the mall and then dinner out.

My top is from Covered Perfectly. I’ve started a collection ever since my first one.

I was so excited to find these black and white leggings recently at Suzy Shier …

because I saw them in Costa Rica last year but didn’t buy them, later regretted it. I even took a photo of them in the store window in Costa Rica! I bought the high low dress you see in this photo and featured it in a post when I got back from Costa Rica.

Have you ever passed up on something and later regretted it?

update

Here’s the view from my kitchen window and the front porch, taken today, January 27, 2014.

Have a safe and happy week! If it’s cold, stay warm; if it’s hot stay cool! And if it’s just right – enjoy!

  2. Snow looks beautiful but I don’t like the cold and I don’t like driving in dangerous conditions. I do love your hat! I have to wear hats when it’s cold. My ears insist on it!

I recently decided not to buy a cool silver thumb ring and I’ve regretted it ever since. The time I’ve spend looking for something similar has taught me it would have been better to buy the ring and not wear it (it wasn’t expensive). I should know better!

You have a spectacular view from your window! No much snow here for the time being , and luckily temperatures aren’t too low…taking photos in winter isn’t an easy task, but you are very cute with your hat! !

  5. You’re so adorable! In the first photo, couldn’t tell if it was you or Jean! Nifty outfit, lady. You look so happy in spite of the snow. Come to think of it, if we all looked as grand as you do, the world would be a happier place!

You’re so sweet Jan, thank you! Sometimes people think Jean is my sister, nice compliment for me, but I hope she doesn’t mind 😉

      Happy birthday my beautiful friend!!!

  6. Hi Carmen! Brrr … EVERYONE up here is complaining about the long, cold winter too and we expect it, lol! So you know it’s gotta be bad when then “northerners” are complaining. And outdoor fashion is an oxymoron for me as I trek to work in my enormous blue parka and boots with the cleats on! I bet you could make my blue parka an envious fashion statement though – you should take a trip up here for some cold weather testing, hahaha.
K, long reply but I just thought of this sweet little white dress I bought when I was 16 – I loved it so much I put it away in my closet to preserve it and by the time I wanted to wear it, the dress was no longer in style and my opportunity was wasted! That was one of my many sad fashion stories … more for later.
    Blessings!

Thanks for dropping by on this cold winters day Julie! Enjoyed your comment and I appreciate you taking time to write.

Your dress sounds pretty, if you love it – wear it, style is what you make it! Also if you keep it longer, it’ll be back in style again someday. Vintage is very fashionable. History repeats itself and so does fashion; what’s old is new again!!

You look great in hats. You should be wearing them all the time. Too hot for dancing though. Extra cute and spunky with the wild leggings.

I seriously am hating this winter. Too cold, too long, too much snow. I hope that Spring won’t be late but I’m not holding my breath. It is depressing. Especially since my husband is now in Australia for 3 weeks and wasn’t able to go with him : (

Thank you Suzanne!! You always look so cool wearing hats – you inspire me!

Glad you like my wild leggings!! As a teenager, I wore (and sewed) many of my own outfits: bell-bottoms and mini skirts with bright flowers, inspired by Cher. These were the days of flower power, psychedelic paisley and groovy prints. I was a fashionable hippie, no tattered, frayed jeans for me; I wore farout, crazy clothes! LOVED IT!!!

Then I got into a period of solid colours, lots of neutrals, hardly any prints or patterns in my wardrobe. Now I’m old enough to go to crazy again and I’m buying fun prints and bright colours. LOVIN’ IT!!!

What a pity you couldn’t accompany your husband to Australia 😦 Would have been a fantastic escape from this miserable cold winter!!

Carmen, you look pretty with your cap, your leggings in black and white, and your warm sleeve cuffs. I really like the print pants. I also loved the dress you bought in Costa Rica, and photos near the river with it. That cold face you have, and that difference with the photos inside, where you look beautiful. I like the look, you look fantastic.

Thank you kindly Josep-Maria! I love winter except for the cold!! I usually buy solid colours, but lately I am buying more clothes with prints and patterns and interesting designs – perhaps I’m getting older – lol.
