I don’t mind faking it!

When it comes to wearing fur, it’s gotta be fake!

Fake Fur and Florals

faux fur and floral skinny jeans 1I wear white after Labour Day and florals in winter. When it comes to fashion, I break all the rules. If something doesn’t make sense to me (e.g. not wearing white after Labour Day) or if I like something (e.g. florals), I’ll wear it if I want to no matter what season.

Ever since childhood I abhorred real fur because I knew it belonged to an animal that had to be killed. My dad was a hunter at the time and it left a very traumatic memory. I know the reality of the bloodshed that people who wear fur don’t even think about. That is a “fashion trend” I will never follow because I don’t want animals to suffer and die for fashion. It’s needless and cruel.

faux fur and floral skinny jeans 2That’s why I’m happy that there are alternatives. My faux fur jacket is soft as a kitten but man-made. It’s warm and hand washable. I have the look without cruelty.

Even when we think wool and angora doesn’t do any harm to animals, we are sadly mistaken. There was even a time when spoonbills, flamingos, herons, and egrets were killed by the millions for their plumes because of the elaborate hats woman wore. These birds could have become extinct if it weren’t for the shift in fashion trends, thanks to the flappers of the roaring 20s.

faux fur and floral skinny 3The animal print scarf is inherited from my mom; she always wore scarves, it was her trademark. I love fashion inspired by nature and animals, however, my love for animals makes me very aware of what I buy–or rather–what I won’t buy–no fur, no leather, no wool and no angora.

fur3_092311How important is fashion to you? Would you wear animal products if you found out the extent of cruelty that animals suffer for fashion? I would hope we all care enough to be informed.

Thank you for reading! Happy January! Stay warm!

Thank you Bob! You know how much I love animals and promoting cruelty-free fashion is important to me. I’ve just added a widget with a bunny that says—FUR-FREE BLOG. Click it and you’ll see what Jean wrote about her blog being fur-free.

Great reflections, Carmen, I agree with you all. Animals in captivity for their fur should not exist. Synthetic leather, now, is very well made and is beautiful. I like your look, you look beautiful, as always. The blouse is wonderful and is perfect in the proposal. I already know the pants, you are always great. The scarf is cute. As you take the cold, you will affect the big storm?

  7. Excellent post! I don’t wear animals because, well, animals are not fabric! It’s so easy to be removed from the sources of our clothes that we separate the cruelty from the garments. I’m glad (and sad) that you saw firsthand where fur comes from so you could make a choice early on to be compassionate. Fur belongs on the animals! It’s ugly on people–unless it’s faux. Never become complacent! Every purchase sends a message. Style isn’t worth the suffering. Thanks for writing about this.

Thank you Jean! I hope people will take the time to check out the links that will inform them of the needless suffering of countless sentient beings and how we can all help animals simply by not buying animal products.

Thanks for the wealth of information I have read on your blog …
