In Memory of Lise

In February, I shared a fabulous occasion with nine fabulous women over 40. We were the ten finalists for the 2013 Most Fabulous Women Over 40 Model Search. We danced and walked the runway at the Red Dress and Tie Gala and Total Woman Fashion Shows. Lise was featured in the MOST magazine.

Sadly, Lise passed away on Sunday, November 17 at age 57, just two days ago.

I’m thankful for the opportunity of meeting Lise, a truly caring person and she was very kind to me during our fashion days. We all loved her. I had twisted my knee and Lise doted over me like a nurse (which she was!) and brought me an aspirin and insisted I rest for awhile. That helped and I was able to carry on.

I’m happy that we were all able to go out one Sunday afternoon last spring. It was to be the last time that the ten of us will be together. Trying to get our whole group together is like herding cats! I’ve tried getting us together since then, but there’s always someone who can’t make it.

Fabulous over 40I’ll never forget her beaming smile and positive attitude!!

Flags will fly half-mast at the University of Guelph in honour of Lise. She was a nurse in Student Health Services until June 2010 when she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

She will be sadly missed by her loving family and friends.

Footprints in the Sand

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,
other times there were one set of footprints.

This bothered me because I noticed
that during the low periods of my life,
when I was suffering from
anguish, sorrow or defeat,
I could see only one set of footprints.

So I said to the Lord,
‘You promised me Lord,
that if I followed you,
you would walk with me always.
But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life
there have only been one set of footprints in the sand.
Why, when I needed you most, you have not been there for me?’

The Lord replied,
‘The times when you have seen only one set of footprints in the sand,
is when I carried you.’

  1. I’m so glad you got to know Lise. What seems so permanent is really so fleeting. One day she’s here, the next day gone. She sounds like a terrific person–beautiful inside and out. I hope the joy of knowing her is greater than the pain of her loss.

I have a card “footprints in the sand” a tremendous reminder of the strength of our Christian faith. May the family draw on the strength of this faith which is, in part, manifested by the support and caring of adherents, friends and strangers too, of this our faith.

Thank you very much Bob for your loving comments! Death is a painful reality and we have all experienced this tragedy in our lives, that’s why we can feel so deeply for those who suffer this loss.

I attended the funeral and it was a very moving celebration of Lise’s life. Her family is very close: her sister shared heart-warming memories, her niece read the well-known and profound poem Footprints in the Sand and Lise’s best friend from Kindergarten also spoke from her heart. The minister’s prayer was heart-felt.

My hope is in the Lord and the assurance of His promises!!
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
      Revelation 21:4

To Lise’s family: I saw Lise’s talent at the Gala and have fond memories of the participants….no matter that I met only 2 or 3 of them….I believe that they were all winners.

Carmen, you’re sweet to dedicate a post to your friend. Lise appeared in two of my post of February 2013, dedicated to the red and black dresses. My deepest condolences to her family and friends, and to you, especially. A big hug.
