2013 Scottish Highland Games – Cambridge

After a scorching, hot week, temperatures dropped just in time for the 38th annual Highland Games in Cambridge, Ontario on Saturday, July 20th. Whether you’re Scottish or not, this family event is an exciting way to spend a lovely summer day. I enjoy watching the Highland dancers (ranging from tots to teens) every time I go. Competitions of the athletic events – such as the caber toss, hammer throw and tug o war – are fun to watch. However, my favourite part of this event is hearing hundreds of pipers play as they march in unison! It is always a very emotional experience for me when they play …

Amazing Grace.

  3. I’ve never been to the Highland Games in Ontario, although I’ve wanted to many times. I did get a chance to visit the Savannah Highland Games in Georgia recently. I didn’t realize what a rich Scottish heritage there is all along the East coast of the US, right into the south. It was a lot of fun!
