Most Fabulous Women Over 40

In December, I attended a fashion show at the Kitchener City Hall. I entered a contest by filling out an application form and having my picture taken.

A few days after New Year, I received a phone call to inform me that I am one of the ten finalists, and an email was sent to confirm and give the dates and details of the exciting events and activities to follow.

This made my day because I will share this adventure with other women over 40 with similar interests, and fulfill a dream of being in a fashion show. The Red Dress and Tie Gala is an annual event held at the prestigious Bingemans Conference Centre (part of the Total Woman Show) a fundraiser for St. Mary’s General Hospital and Regional Cardiac Care Centre. A great opportunity to create awareness about heart disease and support the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

The first event was the Meet and Greet at Fred Astaire Dance Studio, where I met with the other beautiful contestants. Each one shared her story with enthusiasm–clearly, this was much more than just looking pretty, everyone had a zest for life despite going through difficult situations.

They served us cocktails and appetizers. We had our “before” pictures taken and got measured for our fabulous gowns that we will model at the fashion show. The evening ended with several dance performances and then we all got to dance with the charming instructors!

Leading up to the Gala, will be more dance lessons at Fred Astaire Dance Studio, runway training at GEMINI Models and a makeover at Capri Salon and Spa.

Being a dancer, I am looking forward to performing on the night of the Gala, Thursday, February 7th. It will feel like Dancing with the Stars! Rory is an excellent instructor and has choreographed a wonderful dance!
